About HISC

What is HISC?
HISC is the Hatters Independent Supporters Club. An organisation for County fans that has been proudly supporting Stockport County FC for over 10 years, following their formation back in 1992.
HISC believe that, as the moral owners of their clubs, football supporters have a role to play beyond turning up to watch their team play. HISC actively embraced this belief when they pursued the setting up of a Stockport County Supporters Trust by devoting their time and money to investigating the principle of a Supporters Trust. We were delighted to see the dream of a voice at board level more than surpassed with the club ownership by supporters come to fruition in 2005.
There have been suggestions that HISC is no longer needed with the club being run by the fans but our role of asking questions on behalf of our members and other County fans is just as relevant now as it ever was. HISC actively embrace this role, viewing it as a moral duty. For HISC, the summary of HISC's role is;
Supporting the supporters of Stockport County
-
HISC believes that the supporters have a fundamental right to know how
their club is being run.
-
We aim to provide a voice at both a local and at a national level to champion
the rights and aspirations of all football supporters.
-
We will aim to hold regular meetings with Stockport County officials, supporters'
ideas and concerns are aired, to the benefit of both the supporters and
the Club.
Taking Stockport County to the people of Stockport, and beyond
-
By organising social events away from the football ground to help promote
Stockport County.
-
By developing relationships with other organisations in the UK and beyond,
to promote the name of Stockport County.
Backing County's players and initiatives when in the interest of the fans
-
By supporting and encouraging all players who pull on our beloved Stockport
County shirt.
-
By actively supporting initiatives that benefit the supporters of Stockport
County
-
By actively challenging anything that threatens the existence of
Stockport County.
Recognising genuine football supporters of all other football clubs as friends
-
By recognising that all clubs are inter-dependent, i.e. they all need a
football league to play in.
-
By entertaining visiting supporters at County's home games and meeting up
with "opposing" supporters when watching Stockport County play
away from Edgeley Park.
Harry the hatter
For many years HISC have used Harry the Hatter as their logo, and in the summer of 2006 the Football Club adopted Harry as their new mascot.
Harry first appeared on a 1920's Ogden's cigarette card in a collection covering football club nicknames. After running for a year or two the HISC committee decided in the mid 1990's to design their own logo based on the cigarette card. This meant that Harry was reintroduced to the County faithful after some years in the doldrums - apart from a brief appearance in the match day programme in the mid-1980's. We commissioned a simpler caricature based on the original and this then started to be used and a set of badges were produced. The only real change since then is that he's altered the way he's facing from time to time.
Harry Merchandise
HISC also have their Harry the Hatter enamel badge which is free when you join or can be bought for £2.50, including postage.
